Tom Bird - Impact Investor
Tom has been an entrepreneur and investor in early stage impact firms since 1988. Professional highlights include serving as: Mentor and entrepreneur in residence at the Harvard Innovation Lab, founder and CEO of the Silicon Valley information management firm FARM Inc., trustee of the American University in Bulgaria, director of B Lab, and board chair of the Global Giving Foundation.
Tom currently serves on the boards of Unleesh, One Summit, On Frontiers, and on two investment committees for the Patient Capital Collaborative.
Tom earned a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College, an M.B.A from Stanford University, and a Master of Theological Studies degree with an emphasis on ethics from Harvard University.
Carter Crockett - Social Entrepreneur
Carter's background includes over twenty years of business experience, six while a scholar of management and entrepreneurship. He has held strategic-level marketing roles for a number of innovative companies in the following industries: automotive, consumer media, coffee, and information technology. His most recent start-up is Karisimbi Business Partners, a socially-motivated management consulting firm based in Rwanda.
Currently, Carter serves as the Founding Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at Gordon College, where his primary responsibility is to equip future founders to launch ventures for impact.
Carter received his B.A. in Business and Economics from Westmont College and earned a Ph.D. in Entrepreneurship from Robert Gordon University in Scotland.
David Grotenhuis - Financial Strategist
David Grotenhuis is a founding partner at Santa Barbara Capital and Cascade Investment Capital LLC, real estate management and investment companies operating in California and Oregon. Early in his career, he was a Service Master franchiser and in 14 years expanded his workforce from three to 125 employees.
In Santa Barbara, where he lives, Dave served as the President of the Santa Barbara Kiwanis Club and as a Director at the Bank of Santa Barbara. He and his wife are members of Birnam Wood Golf Club, are actively committed to Cottage Hospital's Grotenhuis Multi Specialty Pediatric Clinic, and they started and fund the Grotenhuis Diversity Scholarship Fund at Westmont College.
David earned his B.A. in Economics and Business from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
Libby Jacobson - Impact Investment Consultant
Libby Jacobson is a business development and strategy consultant for nascent impact enterprises in the greater Los Angeles area. Two current areas of focus are affordable housing and financial inclusion. Her background includes thirteen years Wall Street experience in institutional equity research and sales. While raising her four children, she spent many years volunteering within her community. She most recently served as Executive Coordinator for the Emily Shane Foundation in Malibu, which provides at risk youth mentoring and educational support.
Libby is a Chartered Financial Analyst® and earned an M.B.A. from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas in Austin
and a M.S. in Social Entrepreneurship from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. She also serves on Advisory Boards for the Brittingham Social Enterprise Lab at USC and Knit Marketing, an impact enterprise providing quality jobs and training to young people in low-income areas.
